Dr. Alban received her BSN from Johns Hopkins, MSN from University of Maryland and DNP from Carlow University. She has worked inpatient at Johns Hopkins Hospital at the beginning of her career and then transitioned to working in outpatient mental health clinics in the community. As a nurse practitioner who has worked with patients at all stages of illness, from the hospital bedside to outpatient care, she understands what it means to treat the patient holistically. She has seen patients at their worst, when hospitalized, met with families in crisis and has worked with patients in the community. As a doctor of nursing practice, Dr. Alban realizes that the traditional medical model does not work well when treating people for mental health issues. A mental health provider must take into account many aspects that may contribute to the individual's clinical presentation such as their health, family history, lifestyle factors and psychological/family dynamics.
Dr. Alban has extensive experience providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management service to diverse patient populations across all age groups. The core of her family specialization has been working with children and adolescents and remains a large portion of her family practice.
I am board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in VA and MD.
I practiced as a Women’s Health NP for 20 years doing OB/GYN care and mental health needs for pregnancy, post-partum and disorders unique to women. For personal reasons, I took a sabbatical from clinical care. I returned to school in 2021 to obtain my Psychiatric Mental Health NP in response to the crisis after COVID.
